Welcome to Fearless Movement, a judgement-free fitness studio in Oak Flats offering small group mat Pilates and movement, small group personal training, 1:1 personal training and breathwork sessions for women who want to feel stronger, fitter and more capable in their bodies, without making health and fitness another full-time job.
A lot of the women I work with have exercised before. They've joined gyms, tried programs, started challenges, maybe even really enjoyed training at different points in their lives. The problem isn't that they don't know exercise is good for them.
It's finding a way to keep it in their life when work gets busy, the kids need something, sleep goes out the window, motivation disappears or their capacity simply isn't what it was last week.
That's where I want Fearless Movement to be different.
You don't need to get fitter before you come, know what you're doing or prove how hard you can work.
We'll start with the body and capacity you've got today, and build from there.
My small group movement classes combine mat Pilates with mobility, strength and general movement, depending on what we're working on that day.
These classes are deliberately small, which means I can actually coach the people in the room rather than standing at the front delivering the same workout.
There are options when you need them, challenges when you're ready for it, and very little concern about whether you look graceful doing any of it.
Every body is welcome and you don't need to be flexible, coordinated or "good at Pilates" before you come. Getting your left and right mixed up is also completely acceptable.

My small group personal training sessions are deliberately capped at four people, so I can watch how you're moving, and adjust on the spot, in a way that just isn't possible once a group gets bigger.
You get your own program, based on your goals, experience and current capacity, and I'll coach you through it while training alongside a small group of other women.
That means you get much of the individual attention and progression you'd expect from personal training, with the added bonus of having other people around you, and at a more accessible price than training 1:1.
Think of it like personal training, with a few training buddies.

If starting in a group feels like too much, you have specific goals, you're returning to exercise after time away or you'd prefer individual attention, 1:1 personal training gives us more room to work completely around you.
We'll start with where you are now, not where you think you "should" be.
That might mean learning the basics of strength training, rebuilding confidence after an injury, working on mobility, improving fitness or feeling more comfortable with exercise.
I want you to understand your own body, recognise effort, learn how to adjust things and become more confident making those decisions for yourself.
Explore 1:1 Personal TrainingThe founder and coach at Fearless Movement. I didn't grow up dreaming of owning a fitness studio. I was a bookkeeper and BAS agent for years, in a desk job I never particularly wanted.
After a nasty knee break and a long stretch of ignoring my health altogether, I found my way back to movement and became fascinated, not just by exercise, but by anatomy, pain, mobility and why our bodies do what they do.
At 42, the urge to get away from my desk won out over the sensible voice telling me a full career change was a questionable life decision. Whether that was bravery or the beginning of a midlife crisis is still up for debate.
Since then I've trained in Pilates, fitness and breathwork, worked with a range of bodies and abilities, and continued disappearing down various evidence-based rabbit holes about movement, pain, behaviour change and the nervous system.
Fearless Movement grew out of all of it.
Most fitness spaces and gyms run on one idea: push harder, every time, no matter what else is going on in your life. I don't coach that way.
My philosophy is simple: harder isn't always better, and easier isn't always safer, what matters is whether you're prepared for what we're asking your body to do today.
You get to decide that, every session, and you never need to justify it to me.
I coach the person in front of me, not the workout I planned on paper.
Nervous system support isn't a separate technique, it's woven into everything I do. How safe and settled you feel changes how your body performs and whether you want to come back.
There are no drill sergeants at Fearless Movement, and no pressure to prove yourself, to me or to anyone else.
Fearless Movement isn't only for beginners or for women who feel out of place in a gym, though you're just as welcome if that's you.
I've got a particular soft spot for the woman who's sick of constantly starting again, who's tried the gyms, the programs, the challenges and the diets, and who knows exactly what she's "supposed" to do but can't work out how to fit it into a life that's already full.
You want to feel stronger and healthier without organising your whole life around it, you'd like guidance without being treated like a child, and you'd like to enjoy yourself while you're at it.
You don't need to be flexible, coordinated or less nervous, and you definitely don't need to prove you're "serious enough" to belong here.
You just need somewhere to start, we'll work out the rest together.
“I have been to a few of Mel’s Pilates classes and I can really notice when there’s been an improvement from class to class. Like ‘Oh I couldn’t do that last time but now look at me go!’ it’s great for building strength!
Mel’s classes are really fun and very clear with direction. Mel does a great job at keeping an eye on everyone’s form and techniques and gives feedback if there’s need for change. Highly recommend!”

“Mel is very passionate about what she does. This means her classes are far from boring and not just with the variety of movements but the engagement she has with each person.
She is always happy, friendly and ready to teach. You’ll never be disappointed and eager to return just to enjoy the company.”
Elona
“Mel is such an experienced yet welcoming Pilates instructor. Her classes are always varied, engaging and challenging but she also adapts to meet all fitness and movement levels.
As soon as you walk in the door you feel comfortable and welcome by Melinda's friendly demeanour and smiling face. I highly recommend Fearless Movement for anyone wanting to improve their strength, mobility and fitness.”
